<HTML><PRE> Musing Guidelines and Information About Musing Magazine... -Musing is directed toward a small audience interested in an eclectic venue of art and literature. -The magazine is released in January and June, and the cost is $3.00 per issue or $6.00 yearly. The release of specially-themed issues will be announced on a semi-regular basis. The cost of special issues are $2.00 (free with a yearly subscription to Musing). Please make subscription checks payable to Jack McCallum. -Musing is digest-size, with side-staple binding, heavy bond cover, and averages 40-50 pages in length. -Ladies' Room Publications, a division of Ladies' Room Productions (LRP), is the press responsible for the release of Musing and will continue to sponsor an outlet which seeks to promote creativity, style, and passion. Writer's Guidelines... Musing accepts all types of writing, from short stories to poetry but will not accept graphic violence or pornographic details. Just keep the following criteria in mind when submitting work: -ALL submissions must be accompanied by a #10 Self-Addressed, Stamped Envelope (obviously only applies to over-land submissions) and a cover letter (even with e-mail submissions) or will not even be considered. -Send copies of work only, since nothing will be returned unless a SASE with appropriate postage is enclosed with the submission. **Disposable/recycleable submissions preferred** -No simultaneous submissions or reprints. -All materials, except poetry, must be typed and double spaced. The author's name should appear on the upper, right-hand corner of each page, with page numbers clearly marked. Because of limited space, short stories are limited to a maximum of 2500 words. -A short, biographic note about the author MUST be included with the submission. Submissions should be addressed to the following editors: Poetry: Eve Bartlett Fiction: Teresa Huminik Book Reviews/Essays/Profiles/Etc: Jack McCallum Artist's Guidelines... Musing accepts a diverse genre of art but will not accept graphic violence or pornographic details. If unsure your work is what we will print, submit it anyway. Who knows... You could be just what we're desperately looking for! Just keep the following criteria in mind when submitting work: -ALL submissions must be accompanied by a #10 Self-Addressed, Stamped Envelope (obviously applies only to over-land mail) and cover letter (including e-mail submissions) or will not even be considered. -All materials must be done in heavy pencil or pen and be black and white copies, not originals, because nothing will be returned unless a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) with appropriate postage is enclosed with the submission. **Disposable/recycleable copies preferred** -No simultaneous submissions or reprints. -Comics must be themed around art, literature, writing, etc. -Artwork should be sent in a large, flat envelope. Folds and creases decrease quality and will not be accepted. Electronic submissions are not accepted. -A short, biographic note about the artist MUST be included with the submission along with a cover letter. Submissions should be addressed to the art director: Amanda Chaseman Musing Policy Statement... With the philosophy of creating to create and share, Musing continues to sponsor an open-door policy when receiving material. Since one of the main purposes behind Musing is to circulate inspiring material that might otherwsie be buried under a pile of agented submissions, writers and artists are encouraged to submit their work for review by our editors. Contributors are chosen from a specific criteria set by the Musing staff. Previous publishing experience and the genre in which the work falls in does not constitute worthiness. Advice: "Make sure you have already edited the material to the best of your ability, but it is more important to have work that is thought-provoking and innovative. If you can't catch our attention and keep it, nor can you catch the average reader's attention. If you take the time to know your story and characters, we'll take the time to publish it." **Because Musing is released by a small press, payment for published material will be awarded in the form of a contributor's copy of Musing. Musing is hoping this will be able to change in the near future (subscriptions and grants willing...). Submission Deadlines... Winter/Spring--November 30 and Summer/Autumn--April 30. Anything received after these due dates will be considered for the following issue. Special, Theme Issues... The Magic Flight/Fantasy - released March 1997 - deadline Feb. 2, 1997 Edges of Identity/Ethnic-Multicultural - released October 1997 - deadline Sept. 3 Flights of Fancy/Love-Romance - released February 1998 - deadline Jan. 2, 1998 **Submission guidelines are effective for all special issues also. The cost of an issue is $3.00 US/$4.00 Canada/$5.00 Over Seas. **With a yearly subscription to Musing Magazine, subscriber gets a free copy of all special issues released during the subscription year. Special Note to Editors/Publishers: Musing Magazine accepts advertisements for other publications. If you have a magazine, newsletter, book, etc. that you wish to have included in Musing, inquire about possible advert space through Jack McCallum, Editor-in-Chief. This publication does do advert-swaps with other magazines and newsletters. NEWS BITES: Musing Magazine and Ladies' Room Productions have joined forces again to start a newsletter over the internet. News about the publishing world, including sales, markets, web sites, 'zine reviews, and other information of relevance to the writers, illustrators, editors, and publishers out there will be included.
